What is gum disease in Norwich?

A common problem that can go unnoticed

A large proportion of the population suffer unknowingly from gum related problems as the signs are often painless and individuals are hence unaware that anything is amiss. In time gum disease can often lead to mobility and eventually the loss of the affected teeth. Gum disease is caused by a build up of bacteria which live in the plaque and calculus (tartar) on your teeth.

We consider the diagnosis and prevention of gum disease a priority. Healthy gums are the foundation for all the work we do.

1. Assessment and diagnosis

You can book directly with our hygienist through direct access hygiene appointments. During your visit, your gum health will be assessed and, if more advanced treatment is required, the dentist may also be involved in planning your care.

2. Deep gum treatments for gum disease

Our hygienists help patients who have gum disease by performing deep gum treatments over a series of visits. This combined with oral care advice can help stabilise gum disease.

3. Regular cleaning and polishing

Hygienists provide professional cleaning and polishing of your teeth between dental visits. This removes plaque and calculus that is difficult to remove by brushing and flossing yourself.

4. Oral hygiene instruction and prevention

Oral hygiene instruction helps reduce the chances of gum disease and decay, lowering the need for expensive dental treatments in the future.

Very thorough at explaining the treatment and process going ahead. The hygienist was very caring to the fact I was anxious and reassured me, I can’t fault my experience.

Had a lovely appointment today with Bala and Taylor. They were both so kind and lovely and help me feel at ease. I have been seeing Bala regularly as after having my first baby my gums were swollen and over the years they got progressively worse. Bala was so supportive and honest about what I needed to do between appointments to help - she helped me learn how to use interdental brushes and tuft brushes, and this advice along with regular hygienist appointments have helped heal my gums. No other hygienist has been this supportive with help educating me - I went from essentially have stage 4 gum disease to now they are nearly back to normal - so so happy. Will never go to another dentist x

Ms Bala is great! Would highly recommend, very kind and is always very chatty and calming. During our appointments she continuously checks on how I am doing and is happy to stop if breaks are needed x

I had a dental hygiene appointment today and I couldn’t be more impressed. The clinician was incredibly considerate and thoughtful throughout—every step was explained with care, and I genuinely felt looked after from start to finish. It’s rare to find someone who combines technical skill with such genuine compassion. I left feeling not only refreshed but reassured. If you’re looking for a dental professional who treats you like a person, not just a patient, this is the place to go. Highly recommended.
